How To Add A Signature Image To A PDF Online For Free
Add a signature image to any PDF for a resume, cover letter, form or any use case directly in your browser, for free, and no account required.
Background
A signature image is a scanned or photographed version of a handwritten signature saved as an image file. It is the quickest way to add a personal sign-off to a digital document without a drawing tablet or e-signature service. Once you have a clean image of your signature, you can place it on any PDF in seconds.
There are many common situations where adding a signature image to a PDF is exactly what you need:
- Contracts and agreements - Sign a document and return it without printing, scanning, or faxing.
- Offer letters and employment forms - Acknowledge terms with your signature before sending back to HR.
- Permission slips and consent forms - Fill in and sign school or medical forms from any device.
- Cover letters and formal letters - A real signature at the bottom of a letter carries more weight than a typed name.
- Invoices and receipts - Some clients or vendors require a manual signature as confirmation.
All of this is possible directly in your browser with the Edit PDF tool, no installs, no account, and no watermark added to your file.
- Open Edit PDF and upload your PDF
- Select the Signature tool from the toolbar content dropdown, draw your signature in the modal, and place it on the page
- Use the right panel inspector to fine-tune the position, size, and rotation
- Everything runs locally in your browser, no file uploads to any server, no account required
Insert a signature
Open the Edit PDF tool and upload your PDF. To draw your signature, select the Signature tool from the toolbar content dropdown and click the open draw button. A modal will appear with a drawing canvas where you can pick your stroke color and width, then sign freely with your mouse or touch input. Use the clear button to start over, or confirm when you are happy with it. The signature is then placed on the page where you can drag it to the correct signing field, resize it to fit, and rotate it as needed.
Once you are satisfied with the placement, click Preview or Download to save your signed PDF. No watermark is added and no account is required.
Tips
- Take your time with the draw: The drawing canvas has a clear button so you can redo your signature as many times as you like before confirming. A steady hand and a larger stroke width usually produce the cleanest result.
- Stroke color: Black is the standard choice for most documents, but you can switch to blue or any other color to match the expected ink color on the form.
- Signing multiple fields: Use the duplicate action button in the right panel to quickly copy your signature, then drag each copy to a different signing field on the page.
- Password-protected PDF? You will need the document password to open and edit it. The editor will prompt you when you upload the file.
